Steve Hart and his lifelong friend Tom Megan will be participating in a 1400-mile car race called the “Targa Newfoundland”. The race will be September 12-19, 2009 and the course will be around the island of Newfoundland.
Steve will be Tom’s co-driver and navigator in Tom’s 1965 Porsche 356sc, which he has completely restored over the past two years. Below you will see some pictures of the Porsche renovation and we will be updating the progress.
The Porsche 356sc will be running solely on Biodiesel fuel and will be the first vehicle ever to compete in the Targa using Biodiesel. Even though our car will be fire engine red with white racing stripes, we will be greenest vehicle competing. Northern Biodiesel will be one of our sponsors and will provide the biodiesel for the race. Information about the company can be found at their website, www.northernbiodiesel.com.
The race will be partially sponsored by Hart Hearing Centers and Phonak Hearing Systems, www.phonak.com. Phonak is a global leader in the development and manufacturing of digital hearing systems. One of our main goals is to raise awareness of hearing loss and raise money for two organizations that help hearing-impaired individuals. The first organization is the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA). HLAA is a national organization with local chapters, which provides support and education for the hearing impaired, and their families. They also advocate for and educate the community as well as address issues of accessibility for hearing impaired individuals. The second organization we would like to raise money for is the Finger Lakes Region Lions Hearing Foundation. The Finger Lakes Region Lions Hearing Foundation has a program that provides hearing aids for hearing impaired individuals that cannot afford them.
We are asking for donations for these two great organizations. How about donating $14.00, which is one penny for every mile that we race. Certainly you are welcome to give more or less if you would like. Please let us know if you would prefer not to have your name listed on our website as a donor.
Checks can be made out to either Hearing Loss Association of America or Finger Lakes Region Lions Hearing Foundation and can be mailed to:
